Signs Your Garage Door Needs Repair
Your commercial garage door should always be in good repair. Unlike a domestic garage door, a commercial one is needed to protect your business. Be sure to watch for potential issues that may need resolving and have any repairs done as quickly as possible to avoid an emergency later on.
The Door Makes More Noise Than Usual
Though this may not seem dangerous, it has the potential to be a problem. Changes in the sounds made by a commercial garage door will often need to be checked. It could be any number of problems, including:
- Bent coils (a grating sound)
- Off balance door (squealing)
- Loose chain or rails (rattling)
- Loose panels (banging)
- Loose spring tension (rumbling)
- Lack of lubrication (grinding)
- Poor power (straining sounds)
If you notice any of these noises or anything unusual when you are opening or closing the garage door, call for someone to come and examine the garage door. They can make any repairs before the small problem becomes a big one.
Door Sections Are Sagging
Over time, it’s possible that the garage door panels begin to sag. This can happen particularly if you have a poor quality door or if it is fairly old. You should check the balance and look for indications that the panels are sagging at least every six months.
To check for this issue, detach the garage door from the opener. Lift it to the halfway open point and let go. If the door is off balance or has sagging panels, it will either open or shut abruptly when you let go. A well-balanced door will stay open at the halfway mark, just as you left it.
If you notice the balance is off with your door, it will need to be fixed. Usually this is a matter of replacing the tension springs or rollers and tracks, but it could be another problem. An expert can tell you exactly what is going on.
The Door is Slow to Open
In a business, time is money and that means the longer it takes to open a garage door, the more money you’re losing. Garage doors tend not to be very fast, but if you notice that yours has slowed down, it’s time to get it checked. There are quite a few reasons this could occur and they’re all quite simple to fix, as long as you do so early on.
