Manual vs. Automatic Industrial Doors
When it comes to industrial doors, you have two main options for how your door opens and closes. It may be manual or automatic. Which option is best? That depends on several factors, including what the door is being used for.
Which is Safer?
At first glance, it would see that automatic doors would be more dangerous in the workplace, but that’s not always true. In most cases where an electric door fails, it’s due to a poorly maintained system. There are redundant systems in place to ensure no one failure will result in injury or destruction of property.
Regular manual doors can also be hazardous, however. Industrial doors are heavy, whether they are manual or automatic, which means there is a higher possibility of injury with these than with regular doors. You should always take care and maintain the doors as needed to avoid them getting to the point where they could be a danger to yourself or your workers.
Convenience in Doors
Electric doors are a good idea if you find that your workers are frequently trying to move through doors with their hands full. If they are driving a forklift or handling a lot of heavy packages, you will want to make it as easy as possible. Automated doors allow everyone to move back and forth without hindrance.
There are even high speed doors that will give you the ability to move rapidly in and out of the space. If you have a temperature-controlled space, these faster doors provide much better insulation protection.
Which Works Best in an Industrial Situation?
Depending on the industry you work in, you may need the doors opened and closed quite frequently. If this is the case, it’s usually best to use automatic doors, since it can be tedious and time consuming to constantly have someone open and shut the doors.
However, if you just open the doors a couple of times a day to let a lorry in or for a specific delivery, you will find that a manual door functions just as well. It’s usually worth it to switch to automated when you have more than five door openings each day. The more times you need to open and close the door, the more likely it is that you’ll want to automate the task.
