5 Ways to Keep Your Garage Cool This Summer

While summer is just around the corner, there are many ways to prepare your home for the warmer weather. Garages are often cold year-round, however, should a heatwave hit the UK this year, it can be hard to stop your garage from getting too warm. Perhaps you keep lots of valuable items in your garage that could be damaged by high temperatures, or maybe you need a cool spot to park your car so you don't have to feel like you’re getting into a sauna every time you go for a drive
Here are our tips.
Use your garage wisely
Leaving your manual garage doors open all day in hot weather will make the temperature inside rise. Try to only use your garage during the cooler parts of the day such as the morning or evening. Constantly opening and closing your manual or electric garage doors will let out any cool air and invite warm air inside.
Park your car outside to cool off
Driving your hot car straight into your garage is a surefire way to trap heat inside. Instead, park your car in a shady area to cool off and a couple of hours later you can park your car in the garage. Your car can take several hours to cool off, but once it has you can park it inside your cool garage to protect it from the elements.
Open doors and windows for airflow
During the cooler parts of the day such as morning and night, make use of the cool breeze and crack open a few windows or your manual garage door. This enables the temperature to regulate at the beginning of the day and won’t overheat during a hot summer's day.
Place fans in your garage
A ceiling fan or a few floor fans will do a lot to cool the space. If you do work inside your garage, you may want to place one fan facing inside at one entrance and another fan facing outward at a second entrance. This enables a consistent stream of air to pass through your garage and keep the space cool.
Declutter the space
While many of us use our garages to store items, bulky items can block airflow and retain heat. The best way to deal with this is to clear out any items you no longer need and allow your garage to have more space. This is particularly important if your items are preventing your manual or electric garage doors from opening fully.
